In the past year we have all been focusing on our health a lot more than perhaps we would have done before the COVID pandemic.
Doing everything we can to make sure we are keeping our immune system in top condition is key in the fight against viruses like COVID as well as others.
To keep your immune system healthy doesn’t require that much from you. Simple changes to your lifestyle will give your immune system a huge boost.
We have included some of the very best ways to keep your immunity strong.
Staying active
Try to stay as active as possible, either at home or by outdoor exercise.
That could be anything from joining a gym, running, walking, swimming or something as simple as gardening or making your way around on foot instead of using a car all the time,
Staying active is something that can be free and enjoyable and being as active as possible will help your immune system immensely.
Vitamins
Get a healthy serving of Vitamin A, C, D & E in your diet.
You should be able to get this from having a varied and healthy diet.
If you can’t tick all these off in your diet then there are supplements available.

Sleep
A good night of sleep is something that is increasingly over looked in modern life.
Making sure you get 7-8hrs a night is so important.
For gym goers it is vital for recovery after a workout but for our immune system too.
If you have trouble sleeping try some of the following:
- Try to keep your bedroom as dark as possible before you go to sleep. Light from electrical sources or from outside can have a detrimental effect on our ability to sleep well.
- Avoid caffeine in the afternoon.
- Put to one side all of your electrical devices before going to sleep. Staying on your phone until the last minute can prevent you from falling to sleep easily.
- Take a bath before bed.
- Keep your room cool. This will help you to fall asleep.
Diet
We’ve been told this since being young but making sure you are eating a healthy portion of vegetables with every meal will help to boost your immune system.
Alcohol
Reduce your consumption of alcohol. through the week.
Try to limit it to drinks with meals, perhaps once a week.
Throughout the week make sure you are drinking plenty of water.
